Innovative Education in Colorado
Our History
Inn October 1986, the organization, now known as InnEdCO, began as TIE (Technology in Education Colorado).
The Founding Vision
In the era when computers were first being introduced to schools, Colorado educators lacked guidance on integration. Technology leaders traveled to the California CUE conference, where they conceived a “scathingly brilliant idea” (Pat McCartney's words): to establish a dedicated technology conference for Colorado and the surrounding region.
Key Milestones
-
October 1986: A visionary group of twelve educators—including Kathy Brabec, Jan Bybee, and John Speckien—met and devoted many hours to planning the first conference and shaping Colorado’s Technology in Education.
-
June 1987: The first TIE conference took place, establishing the organization's story as being defined by its people as much as its technology.
-
June 2026: The 40th Conference celebrating innovative educators in Colorado.
The organization's history suggests a future where the next generation of presenters will rise to join the Board of Directors, leading the organization through the 21st Century.
